A combination of EEG Biofeedback and and ECG Heart Rate Variability, self- monitored in real time for just a few minutes a day, to achieve maximum brain coherence.
It is the personal management of mood and mind state for Peak Performance
BWME: Brain Wave Management Entrainment
BWME is a Positive Emotion-Refocusing Technique. It’s a mixture of EEG biofeedback and and ECG heart rate variability monitored by anyone for just a few minutes a day.
Having Real Time control over your Brain Waves and your Heart rhythm can help us all make a paradigm shift and breakthrough in whatever we want to do. We call this Mind and Brain Wave Management.
In a matter of minutes, it is possible to place an individuals in an emotional state that enables them to have the ability to gain a focused mind state and the opportunity of gaining peak performance.
This emerging technology allow Individuals to watch, in real time, how their mind and brain link with the heart to gain an equilibrium and a purer state of thinking, allowing the mind brain and body to operate with complete clarity and calmness. We can now alter this state of consciousness.
By wearing a headband that has sensors within it and by linking it to an app, any individual will be able to see, at a glance, their brain wave emotional state and be able to manage better their emotional balance. We are able to create a perfect rhythm between mind brain and the heart and will be able to engage the appropriate level of brainwave to achieve a given task.
Having powerful emotional management is the next major step in being able to self-manage in any given situation. The benefit of this technology, and the information it provides, is that it can apply to everyone at anytime and anywhere – within just a few seconds. This enables us to improve how often we can achieve Peak Performance and sustain it – it will enable us to increase attention span, enable outstanding focus, make key decisions under pressure successfully, come up with solutions, memorise and problem-solve with far, far greater ease.
It reduces anger and frustration: it will raise mood from low to high.
It will build confidence and self-esteem.
This is a necessary and instantly accessible pathway to improve the quality of life.
Mind and Brain Wave Management can take time, but it will help us restabilize more quickly and any time one person manages their emotions, then everyone involved in the situation benefits.
IMF+ uses this technology in coaching and consultancy sessions, and trains clients to maximise their potential.
The Metawaves Session Steps help individuals gain equilibrium again.
It is essential that we try.
Simple steps to achieve brain coherence
Metawaves and Heartmath
Brain and Mind technology to help us towards peak performance, success in all areas of life and especially better health.
Improve your concentration, defeat stress, achieve peak performance, boost sleep, increase fitness, lose weight and be happier by using Metawaves and Heartmath advanced brain and body training wearable headset and equipment, and by following real-time performance on the Apps.
Metawaves and Heartmath provide instant real-time feedback and self-management in mood, and attention and peak performance
Wearable technology now helps health-conscious consumers train virtually every brain area and body part. Whether it is building up concentration and focus, relaxing, achieving peak performance, managing mood or mind power, losing weight, improving cardiovascular health or building lean muscle – there is accessible, affordable, accurate and invigorating technology available to offer assistance for everyone, immediately and in ‘real-time’.
Now, through a new wave of laboratory-quality devices for the general public, mind and brain training can now significantly improve our lives. With advanced Brain Mapping and Tracking wearables – called ‘Brainwave Management’ – these devices and smart Apps are emerging from the scientific world and offer the opportunity to improve mental health, conquer insomnia, relieve anxiety depression and trauma, increase concentration and focus, create a “state of flow” or being “in the zone” – and help to reduce mental health issues, from depression, motivation, negative thinking to phobias, food cravings or weight loss and much, much more.
These products focus on interaction with the brain, but serve many purposes, using a range of scientifically developed methods. Some use neuroscience, such as a headset designed to help regulate brainwaves; some are to help us understand de-stressing and relaxation and some use nerve stimulation to trigger the body’s relaxation response. Some use a headset to deploy an audio ‘land and soundscape’ to tackle the damaging barrier to a healthier, fulfilled and more joyful life: a proper night’s sleep.
But two, Metawaves (BWM: EEG Biofeddback) and Heartmath (ECG Biofeedback), provide an all-round and holistic approach, with up-to-date and thought-provoking information, specific training and tips and techniques. Metawaves and Heartmath, in collusion with other providers with expertise and experience in developmental psychology, provide real-time feedback and training in the many areas that encompass all Life Skills. A combination of EEG Biofeedback and Heart Rate Variability and pulse tracking enables the user to balance hormonal and chemical reactions in the brain and body to produce maximised positive outcomes.
Technology is finally becoming au fait with the concept of “mind over matter”.
And we can manage it by ourselves, with individual support and in teams – in all walks of life.
Are you ready to open up your mind?
IMF+ is here to help you.
Emerging health technology helps us fix ourselves. Do you wantWe are frequently told that hydration, a nutritious and balanced diet, combined with regular exercise are the keys to wellness. While they help massively, they are not a fix all solution. Some conditions, like anxiety, depression and stress, poor sleep, and active focus and achieving full mind ‘flow’ are not fully addressed by the familiar well-being apps and technology. Intervention often comes through talking therapies, coaching, medication which, although beneficial, are often a temporary solution.
IMF+ can provide that too.
BWME is a much more direct and effective response, and in real-time. Is especially useful with the support of a coach or by a practitioner. It is also beneficial for those that have some knowledge, and by those who are learning through the app the benefits a brainwave management.
By sensing and reacting to brain activity whilst awake, or during sleep, we are stimulating the nervous system, and our technology aims to give the body and mind a boost to overcome challenges that have an effect on well-being, mood and success.
It’s a life-changer, yes-brainer, personal trainer experience!
The Benefits
You can achieve Cortical Facilitation and Flow Focus anywhere, and at any time. This may be at home or at work, during meetings, seeking inner clarity, being creative or innovative while you are driving, dancing, running, panicking, feeling down or when you just be more at ease and calm.
In fact, in any situation at all.
What are the benefits Mind, Brain and Body connection, at its optimal level?
Mind and Brain Wave Management has many upsides it:
- Prepares us for activities that require concentration and coordination
- Creates and optimises is emotional resilience, calmness, mental focus and concentration when we need it most
- Enables us to move into the zone or into a flow state so that we can achieve our personal best
- Prevents anxiety and worry, stress and panic allowing us to transform negative feelings into productive energy
- Provides us with instant feedback to help us manage and balance our emotions
- Helps us develop our skills in a calm and dynamic internal state
Benefits include:
- Calmness
- Brain Speed
- Attention and Focus
- Concentration
- Memory Retention
- Healthiness
- Performance and Results
- Controlled blood pressure to manage hypertension
- Cognitive function Thinking – clearer and faster
- Emotional well-being
- Stress and anxiety reduction
The dangers of not being in control are the opposite of above.
It is especially important to use whenever you feel nervous, anxious, strained, irritated, or just out of sorts on the course. It will help you quickly get back in sync and recoup drained emotional energy.
When we practise the Mind and Brain Wave Management 7 steps, there is a profound effect on our entire nervous system. There is an improvement in how our mind, the nervous system, heart, and brain work together. By using techniques, we can shift the pattern of signals the heart sends to the brain and body, reducing the negative thinking and helping all the areas of our brain work together in harmony. This helps us calmly focus our emotions and recharge your attention and concentration. As we become less stressed and think clearly and quicker, we will perform better and have more success and enjoyment.
It’s equally important let we learn to handle confrontation and challenges both internal and external. If we practise handling minor irritations, anxiety, or anger situations we create positive habits that can make a fundamental difference in our day-to-day living.
At the same time we are also building mental resilience and strength that we can employ at any time if we have to deal with a crisis, challenge or unexpected event that might change our life.
How Does BWME work?
As we know, if we exercise regularly and focus on a particular target or area of the body, we become stronger, fitter and broader. Of course, that’s a no-brainer.
Training the Brain by necessity means employing a number of techniques and approaches linked to specific targets and objectives.
These techniques are employed during sessions when the client wears a headband with sensors and HRV equipment that provides immediate feedback. This is monitored on screen, and at the end of the session provides feedback on levels of brain wave (EEG) function and heart rate variability (ECG).
When we exercise our brain regularly and focus on a particular target or area of the brain, we become stronger, fitter and broader. For example if we wish to extend our concentration or attention, we use techniques and focus on a particular brain wave pattern. Much the same as going to the gym, we increase this strength over a period of time.
This technology and equipment is entirely non-invasive and is safe
The technology is designed to be worn during sleep, or encouraged in specific sessions to track behaviour over a period of time.
For many the intention is to combat anxiety or depression.
We can focus on meditation and mindfulness.
As well as stimulating the brain through Metawaves and Heartmath, there are also companion Apps with some immediate feedback, mentoring, coaching tips and guidance on Thinking Skills, Life Skills and Well-Being topics. These often work in concert with other treatments and will enhance and boost the feedback and success of all.
Metawaves and Heartmath provide an holistic experience in brain training based on quality feedback from the brain, and links with further products from the IMF+ and associates, MILO International
EEG Biofeedback
This is the ability to control our Brain waves through monitoring our performance on a screen (through EEG or galvanic skin response). We can then train our brain to be in the correct “brain wave” state so that we can achieve maximum concentration, focus and attention.
We can control our memory retention, clear thinking and cognitive function (brain activity – problem solving, creative thinking and so on).
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a recording of brain activity (NHS description)
Small sensors are attached to the scalp to pick up the electrical signals produced by the brain.
These signals are recorded by a machine and may be analysed to bring improved balance and regularity in the brain.
This is not invasive and involves no discomfort. Electrodes are placed over the scalp, sometimes in a form of skullcap (like rugby players). These days, a simple headband can yield sufficient results or feedback through a simple head band to enable users to see in real-time how they can alter their brain wave state for their better well-being.
Medically, EEG is used to help diagnose and monitor a number of conditions affecting the brain. It may help identify the cause of certain symptoms – such as seizures (fits) or memory problems or find out more about other conditions. The main use of EEG is to assist in the confirmation of epilepsy and to treat it. It is also used, increasingly, to assist in medical conditions such as dementia, brain tumours or brain inflammation and sleep disorders. It is used to help those with Neurodiversitites such as ADHD, for it will help the individual to learn how to concentrate and raise attention and to be in a state of calmness, if combined with advice and training. This is called EEG Biofeedback or Neurofeedback.
This is Brain Wave Management
Over the last 20 years or so, EEG Biofeedback or Neurofeedback has become increasingly powerful as a method of helping individuals gain a state of mind to perform better at anything. It is possible to manage individual performance and change a brain wave state, increasing or decreasing the level of activity: this is the feedback seen on a screen.
Seeking the Zone
One of the great benefits of having this emotional self-control is that it can be applied to anything that we may do – business, sport, creativity, people management, relationships, parenting, handling stress and trauma, recovering from ill-health, precise manual dexterity, decision making and many, many, more situations.
Mind and Brain Wave Management will enable us to achieve peak performance. Individual’s will be able to create a state of flow and be “in the zone”.
This in-the-moment, real-time feedback is now at everyone’s fingertips. At those moments when we reach a high state of anxiety or even panic (sportspeople call it “The Yips”), that then affects performance (in nano seconds and when our mind goes blank) we will be enabled to have empowering control.
Scientists and professional coaches call this moment of panic cortical inhibition: this is when fear, anxiety or frustration dominate the brain and restrict our ability to perform at our best.
Mind and Brain Wave Management has a profound effect on health, well-being and mental resilience. For the first time the ability to gain information from our brain and our body (EEG and ECG Biofeedback) is both increasingly accurate and affordable.
Scientists and professional coaches call this Cortical Coherence: this is when we perform at our best, synchronising Mind, Brain and Body to perform at our best.
IMF+ and BWM entrainment provides clients with these abilities .
Combining Metawaves and Heartmath: EEG with ECG
Through the MBW Rapid Brain Coherence Technique (Metawaves App), individuals can learn to take charge of their non-conscious and conscious state of mind and to refocus so that they work positively rather than negatively. The steps of this technique are simple, and they will reduce the chaos in the nervous system and increase brain wave and heart rhythm coherence so we feel and perform better.
Once individuals have completed the process, we can reflect and re-evaluate how to improve. With practice, we will find that we have more intuitive automaticity and more options. This is especially powerful in-the-moment and during high-pressure situations.
Rhythmic heart breathing technique helps shift the nervous system into coherence because the rhythm of your breath affects the rhythm of your heart rate and this in turn shows we are optimising a particular wave state to suit our task.
Throughout History breathing techniques have been used to help people reduce trauma and stress. When we draw a series of deep breaths, especially during a stressful time, the breathing rhythm changes the heart’s rhythm, and this then has a powerful, calming and
balancing effect on the brain and the entire body. With additional visual imaging skills, the effects go much further.
Breathing is only a piece of the process in the success of Rapid Brain Coherence. When we choose positive feelings and thinking, such as care, love or appreciation, while breathing ‘through’ the brain and heart, we create both physical and emotional coherence.
By then imagining positive imagery, positive language and up-beat thinking it is easier to sustain coherence for longer periods so that it becomes natural, automatic and familiar to our brain and body system. This makes it much easier to be balanced in our cognitive and emotional consideration during challenging situations anywhere.
Expressions like “put your heart into it” or “from the heart” or “the heart and soul of the team” are verbal manifestations of the physiological keys that unlock coherence and high performance.
Mind and Brain Wave Management (using the Metawaves App) coherence will show you how through 7 Key Steps.
Brain Waves
Surf Your Waves
Brain waves: conscious and subconscious learning on 6 main ‘frequencies’
Brain waves are the electric impulses that travel along brain cells through the axons and dendrites, essentially passing messages to and from each other.
The Waves: Beta, SMR, Alpha, Theta, Delta, Gamma
Beta waves
There are essentially three bands: Low-Beta (or SMR), Beta and High-Beta.
Beta You are wide awake. Conscious learning is happening. These are alert/ active waves. Alert, normal, awake, conscious. Beta is our normal waking state of consciousness. Beta is associated with high-engagement and active brain processing (figuring things out).
High-Beta is associated with both complex thought, high anxiety and/or excitement. It is associated with tension, difficulties in sleeping fight/flight etc.
Low Beta / Sensory Motor Rhythm SMR waves are associated with fast-idle, thoughtful and awareness states. calm, extremely aware, quietly very alert.
Beta is dominant in the left hemisphere, and it has been suggested that too much Right-hemisphere Beta is an indicator of mania.
Alpha waves
These are subconscious learning waves. We are relaxed but alert. We learn a great deal this way. If we can ‘visualise’ an advert easily right now, we will realise we didn’t ‘mean’ to learn it, but you know it remarkably well. Relaxed lucid not conscious thinking.
Alpha waves are dominant in “internal” states such as meditation and quiet thought. It is thought that Alpha is the typical “resting-state” or idling-state of the brain. Alpha waves are associated with calmness, mental co-ordination, mind/body integration and “super-learning” states. Alpha is most associated with the right hemisphere and also correlates with negative states such as depression or withdrawal. This is particularly the case with frontal cortex alpha waves.
Theta waves
These waves happen when we are in deep meditation or dreaming. They are very creative. They happen just before we slip into go deep sleep and again just before waking. These are deep sleep waves: activating deep relaxation, meditation and mental imagery.
Cortical Theta is the frequency observed in young children but as people age, it tends to appear as a drowsy, sleep-like, or meditative state. Excess Theta observed when awake can create feeling of daydreaming and is also frequently associated with ADHD and other learning difficulties. Excess Theta in the Left hemisphere has been postulated associated with a difficulty in efficient organisation, while the reverse could indicate impulsivity. Looking after the whole brain is essential. Once we understand how to raise the frequency of these when we want to, we learn faster.
Delta waves
Delta waves are slow brainwaves that normally appear in sleep. It is suggested that these waves appear during healing and regeneration and are considered essential for restorative sleep. Excess Delta when awake may also indicate learning difficulties such as ADHD and will make it difficult for people to focus or to complete tasks. Delta may also reflect general neurotransmitter activity (dopamine and acetylcholine as discussed previouly).
Gamma waves
Gamma waves are the highest brainwave and starts around 35Hz and can extend up to 100Hz or beyond. They are associated with peak concentration and high levels of cognitive functioning. Low Gamma levels have been linked with learning inefficiencies and memory issues. On the other hand, high Gamma has been reported in happy people with a high IQ and an excellent memory.
“Whole Brain” Function
With a simple understanding of the brain, we can understand how managing brain waves and heart rate variability has a profound impact on our level of performance in anything that we do.
Attention
Specific training on attention focus and concentration enables a state of consciousness where success can be achieved in any task, pastime, sport or formal activity.
Memory
Understanding how Memory works is essential to understanding the feedback gained from BWM and HRV and how we perform.
Is Brain Mapping and EEG Biofeedback safe?
Yes. The monitoring of brain activity and altered states of mind necessitates thorough analysis of any effects. Any piece of technology used requires consideration. But, be reassured, this technology has been available for many years.
After years of analytical research, this innovative technology is now readily available for all and is designed for the average person whose wish or need is to take control of their own mental and physical performance, health and success.
Are there any risks or side effects?
The EEG procedure is painless, comfortable and generally very safe. No electricity is put into your body while it’s carried out. Apart from possibly feeling a bit tired, you normally will not experience any side effects. The individual may feel lightheaded
Why is it so important
Each area of Mind and Brain connection affects neural connections. The Brain, Mind and Body are one. Each influence and change each other.
Poor physiology damages brain power and long-term intelligence and memory. Poor physiology effects our Mind State. Poor motivation effects health (that “gut” feeling).
It is possible to actively change brainwaves and it is possible to change brainwaves consciously: we also do this all the time unconsciously – although not always in the most efficient way.
Metawaves
Metawaves is an all-encompassing product using the Muse 2 headset and the Metawaves App app
Metawaves combines EEG Biofeedback and Neurofeedback by monitoring and altering brainwave levels and by managing Heart Rate Variability and pulse tracking (using the Heartmath system) to enable the user to balance hormonal and chemical reactions in the brain and body and to alter mood and state of consciousness to produce maximised positive outcomes.
Detail:
Metawaves is an all-encompassing product using the Muse 2 headset and the Metawaves App app to incorporate most of the areas of covered by other providers, and functions appear to be extremely similar whilst data and the feedback appears to be superior.
Having purchased the Muse headset, the Metawaves App allows you to track your brain waves in real time, and you associate a particular level of brainwave that applies to a particular, task, situation condition or experience you wish to have. This is sometimes known as Neurofeedback or brain wave management. These our other terms for brain tracking.
The app allows users to place themselves in an appropriate state of consciousness where they can achieve peak performance and success in a given objective. Objectives may be related to physical and mental Health, Sport, performance in any environment, improved attention and concentration, improved memory, improve the learning, decision-making and problem solving, sleep meditation and relaxation and general focus. In fact, it can be applied to almost any activity, at any place and any time and for any age group.
At the same time, it records Biofeedback in the form of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and pulse – and a simple percentage overview between High Activity and Relaxation.
Brain Tracking is visible on the screen at all times and a thorough review of each session is recorded and filed permanently to allow individuals (and perhaps those who help them) the opportunity of reviewing and building new targets for success.
It is possible to run what are known as Unguided Sessions, where you hook up and get on with your everyday tasks for a period of time before checking the percentage of the five brainwave levels you have recorded. There is clear explanation of what each brainwave or combination of brainwaves may represent and how they may be employed together to greatest effect.
These also provide clear evaluation and interpretation of feedback so that the user recognises the benefits, and also recognises the areas for potential improvement at the end of each session. The App provides the user with the opportunity of setting specific targets in a number of key Life Skills areas.
In addition, there are companion Apps and Training Sessions which provide Guided Sessions, and new ones are being produced regularly by the Metawaves, the IMF+ team and associates, MILO International Ltd.

MILO Peak Performance coaching and training is at the very centre of everything we offer.
To achieve at anything, we each have a potential to achieve our very best. It’s the foundation of human endeavour and human performance in various areas such as sports, business, academics, and personal life.
Peak Performance refers to the state of operating at one’s maximum capacity, efficiency, and effectiveness in a given activity or endeavour.
It encompasses a state of FLOW [“in the zone”] where an individual or a system achieves optimal outcomes, often characterized by heightened focus, productivity, creativity, and overall excellence.
Peak Performance can be observed across various domains such as sports, academics, business, arts, and personal development. It involves the utilization of skills, knowledge, and resources to produce exceptional results, often exceeding expectations or previous achievements. Achieving peak performance typically requires a combination of factors including motivation, skill mastery, mental resilience, optimal conditions and effective strategies.
Peak Performance coaching is a specialised form of coaching aimed at helping individuals, teams, or organisations reach their highest levels of performance and potential.
It normally involves working with a coach who is trained to facilitate personal and professional development in order to optimize performance.
MILO Peak Performance
MILO coaches and consultants provide a unique service for our clients.
We use the latest technology and tried and tested methodologies, involving tuning the mind and brain as much if not more than refining physical skills and techniques.

Mind Management
When we are confronted by a challenging situations, we enter an unnatural state when our lives seem to have been turned upside down: for example bad news, loss of job, broken relationships, the effects of personal disaster, severe illness in a loved one and many more situations.
We can expect to experience this state reasonably often – it can happen on a daily basis: for example we there is social pressure or when we feel hurt or disappointed, frustrated or angry, when we are embarrassed, nervous, anxious and overwhelmed, or when we are distracted whilst trying to concentrate and when trying to achieve high a standard and conscious thinking distracts our non-conscious ability to succeed.
Control over state of mind and state of consciousness is something that we manage everyday thousands of times – but do we always manage it to maximum effect to achieve peak potential?
When we are in a state of high emotional discomfort our energy reserves are depressed, we operate through nervous energy and we are ‘unnerved’. This leads to cycles of fatigue, anxiety, confusion, and may increase to a level of despair and depression. By learning how to take charge of our emotional state through BMWE, we start the process of renewing our emotional resilience and this helps us re-energize our nervous system.
Altering states of Consciousness
An altered state of consciousness is a change in one’s normal mental state as a result of change in thinking or concentration or as result of anxiety, stress, trauma, an accident or induced through meditation, drugs and some foods.
To alter from a state of anxiety to calmness, for example, or to increase focus and attention at critical moments, is a very welcome addition to an individual’s skill set. It is not hard to imagine how this can be of benefit on a daily basis, and technology now allows us to be able to read our brain waves in real time to create a state where we are more comfortable and productive.
To understand how we can achieve this, and how this may benefit individuals we need to understand more about brain waves.
We have known for a long time that it is possible for us to experience altered states of consciousness, such as out of body experiences, lucid dreaming or believing we are in the presence of an invisible sentient being.
Our emotions can be the stuff of imagination, and we can have psychological and physical experiences and feelings without anything tangible to fall back on. Given a prod, the brain can produce any experience on its own without any real stimulus.
How does the brain achieve all of this?
All experience arises from electrical discharges in the type of brain cells known as neurons. When one neuron excites its neighbours and they in turn ignite thousands of others, we create thoughts, feelings and perceptions.
Millions of neurons fire in unison to produce even one simplistic thought. These happen millions of times each day. Every incoming sensation stimulates a new pattern of neural activity.
When these are repeated often they can be remembered in the form of impressions or memories.
Hundreds of different neurotransmitters have been discovered but the most important appear to be:
- Serotonin
- Ascetycholine
- Noradrenalin
- Glutamate
- Enkephalins and Endorphins
- Oxytocin
- Dopamine
Inherent in our brains is our ability to acquire new knowledge and to use stimuli and to gather information, particularly in relation to future events. We are greedy for information. We are naturally inquisitive. Unless we research something, or use our imagination, or retrieve information from our memory patterns of thought emerge and develop networks of phenomenal complexity in a very short space of time.
Innately most of these are based on helping us survive, or help to better ourselves – for example, we learn quickly where we can access something that will benefit us – a new source of food perhaps or smart ways of gaining more money or for our own security.
We also know that if we do not repeat the thoughts and patterns that we have laid down, and they lie unused, that they will eventually fade away. Repeat them often enough and these impressions become what we call ‘Memories’.
This in turn causes us, or others, to create illusions and prejudices that become real in our mind, and we can become vulnerable to making mistakes – sometimes in situations that affects others dramatically.
We do not realise it consciously, but most of the time we are constantly subjected to information through advertising or the media, and perhaps other sources closer to home, that seek to influence and manipulate our thinking to satisfy other’s needs.
For instance, we recognise instantly when someone who is ill-trained in selling is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
Yet we are all guilty of being somewhat gullible, by beginning to believe that something is true because it is repeated to us often and in different ways by a good storyteller!
However, simply understanding how the brain works, both non-consciously and consciously, and how impressions and memories are formed will enable us to be far more objective and far more accurate in our assessment of situations.
BWME and How we learn
Traditionally we take a `top down’ approach when we teach to the conscious mind, but the way human beings learn naturally is through a bottom-up approach.
We take in large amounts of information non-consciously and those things that are of importance rise to conscious awareness when we need them.
They are encoded in our Memories, which in turn are made up of “impressions” we have made of semantic, procedural, spatial and episodic events of experiences.
Conscious and Non-Conscious Processing
There is a difference between Unconscious processing and Conscious processing within the Brain / Mind. Unconscious processing is associated with Implicit memory in the right hemisphere in the Limbic system and Mid-brain. It has an impact on our brain waves.
Conscious processing is associated with Explicit memory in the left hemisphere and to Higher Brain Function and sophisticated cognitive processing. This also has an impact on our brain waves
Non-Conscious Processing and Learning
Most traditional learning or information is directed at the conscious mind. Study is valued, learning is hard, but if we persevere and if we have the right sort of mind, we’ll get there in the end. But significantly, his only happens when we go to school. Until then, we learn from the vast choice of un-simplified input all around us, and some part of us chooses what it is we need to learn – and we learn it!
The human being, made up of mind, body, emotion and spirit, is designed to learn effortlessly. We are presented with information, we try things out, we notice the response we get and either continue doing the same thing or do something different in order to get a different response.
`Mistakes’ are simply feedback – an essential part of the learning process. But that’s when we’re learning `naturally’ – or non-consciously – the information that we `need’ to know.
Because we are conscious only of what we are conscious of, we tend to think that ‘conscious awareness’ is all there is. And yet if we really look at our lives, the decisions we have made and how we have learnt most things, we become aware of how much has been influenced by events and experiences beyond our conscious control.
The Mind is sometimes compared to an iceberg. We are taking in information through our senses all the time – the majority of the iceberg below the surface – but at any one moment, only a very small fraction of that information is brought to our conscious awareness – `the tip of the iceberg’.
The conscious and the non-conscious minds work in very different ways.
Traditionally we take a `top down’ approach when we teach to the conscious mind, but the way human beings learn naturally is through a bottom-up approach – we take in large amounts of information non-consciously and those things that are of importance are accessible to conscious awareness when we need them.
The real way to train the non-conscious mind is to have access to as many interesting activities as possible and leave it to non-conscious to learn what we need to learn. For those who work within a more formal structure, though, there are many techniques that can be employed to make learning easier by stimulating the non-conscious mind.
BWME and Memory
The human brain holds many billions of impressions some fleetingly some for a lifetime. These impressions are what we call memories.
Incoming sensory information is broken down and then rebuilt to form perceptions, so perceptions are broken down again and they are passed into memory.
Each fragment is sent off to storage in a different part of our vast internal library.
Each run through etches them deeper into the neural structure.
At this point it is significant to convey to you that memory once encoded may be changed every time it is recalled.
If we do this effectively and repeat it on a regular basis the old memory is overwritten by a new memory. Then, crucially, as far as we are concerned the new memory has always been there.
The potential implications are clear. We can indeed retrieve long lost memory.
Unfortunately, we also know that we can overwrite memory simply by rewording it and repeating it often.
There is much to say about the fact that memory can be distorted, altered, implanted and used as unreliable evidence in many situations. Along with this rewriting of history, there is often a deep-rooted stubborn conviction that we must be right.
Memory is a complex and multifaceted thing! And in essence it is unreliable in many respects. This may come as a shock to many and may even be disconcerting.
We can rewrite our own history with ease if we wish to give a particular impression. Politicians and historians frequently reconfigure the truth to suit their audience, ambitions and successes.
How often these days do we rely upon Google, Wikipedia and AI to check facts and to remind ourselves of what happened some years back. But what happens if the information is inaccurate or indeed wrong…. or if it has been deliberately reconfigured?
We have to keep on our toes!
At IMF+ we explain Memory and the Brain, and train clients using techniques and practices that will have a very great impact throughout life, and may well have an impact on any form of brain damage and dementia.
Stress and Trauma
So, how can BWME help reduce stress and achieve peak performance?
Research has demonstrated that there is a profound link between heart, brain, stress and emotions
There is substantial scientific research to demonstrate significant organisational benefits of EEG Biofeedback
Substantial scientific research shows that Brain Training delivers dramatic improvements in:
- cognitive function
- emotional well-being
- physiological health
- blood pressure
- cardiovascular function
Technology is now available that allows us to change the quality of the internal signal from our heart to our brain, thus maximizing cortical function, and manage our brain waves
This in turn enhances clarity, creativity and insight, which are the key factors determining an individual’s personal performance.
Research has demonstrated that there is a profound link between heart, brain, stress and emotions.
Changing the quality of the internal signal from the heart to the brain enables individuals to maximize cortical function.
This in turn enhances clarity, creativity and insight, which are the key factors determining an individual’s personal performance.
Technology has developed that is capable of identifying and tracking the internal physiological conditions that disable performance. In addition, this research has also characterised the conditions required to flourish under pressure
These techniques are therefore capable of improving personal and organisational effectiveness, adaptability, productivity, and morale.
We call this “Brain Training”, achieved through BioFeedback and EEG Biofeedback (Neurofeedback)
You can control your Brain Power
We now know that “self-regulation” is possible.
You can change the “power” in your brain like changing
gears in a car.
This directly affects our Higher Brain
And it rapidly impacts upon Understanding, Memory and Problem Solving.
What happens when the brain is Traumatised?
Fight-Flight-Freeze
There is within all living creatures and nervous system which is made up a network of a brain, spinal cord, nerves cells, fibres, dendrites which transmit messages around the body. It allows us to walk, talk, eat, learn, develop emotions, interact with others – essentially it enables us to live and it has an intrinsically designed system that helps us to survive, thrive and respond to emergency and threatening situations.
If you encounter a threat that you feel confident you can face, you respond with ‘fight’.
If you encounter a threat that you know you cannot defeat, you will likely respond with ‘flight’. Either of these are survival mechanisms enable a person to continue to strive and survive.
“Freeze” is a common response to those in chronic threat situations and who feel unable to protect themselves, such as a child abused in the home. When someone freezes, their body is trying to protect them and has decided it is the best tactic to survive the threat.
This is seen in some “fainting “goats who freeze under stress and are seem to fall over. In fact, fainting goats don’t. They remain conscious the entire time. Myotonic goats are born with a congenital condition called myotonia congenita, which is also known as Thomsen’s disease. This condition causes their muscles to seize up when they’re startled. As the goat matures it adapts to sources of stress and older goats learn to deal with the startles response better.
During a fight-flight-freeze response, numerous physiological changes occur.
The amygdala is the part of your brain responsible for detecting threat and perceiving fear. If danger is detected, the amygdala sends signals to the hypothalamus, which then activates the autonomic nervous system.
The autonomic nervous system is composed of two parts, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Depending on which response is dominant at the time will determine how you respond to the threat. The sympathetic nervous system instigates the fight or flight response whilst the parasympathetic stimulates the freeze response.
The autonomic nervous system releases adrenaline and cortisol, which are stress hormones. These hormones are largely responsible for the physiological changes which occur. These responses commonly include
Muscles –muscles will tense, ready to fight or run. In freeze response, you may go limp or rigidly immobile but will retain cognitive and situational awareness. .
Heart –increases to bring more oxygen to your major muscles and organs.
Lungs – breathing in fight or flight will speed up to deliver more oxygen to the blood; however, in freeze response, breathing may slow down or become restricted.
Eyes & Ears – hearing will often become sharper, and attention to your peripheral vision increases to detect threats better.
Skin –skin, the largest organ of the body, reacts accordingly, either becoming cold, pale or clammy or increasing in temperature or becoming sweaty. Blood is redirected from the extremities to the major organs.
Digestion –gut may tense and become knotted or may loosen and relax, both of which can cause digestive discomfort.
Pain – fight-or-flight can temporarily reduce your perception of pain.
How a person reacts to a threat is highly subjective and depends on their previous experiences, their ability to process and the interpretation of what they are experiencing at the here and now. Bearing in mind than an individual can shift quickly between these. An example is a solder responding to a combat situation.
IMF+ Coaches and Consultants have extensive experience in dealing with Distress, Stress and Trauma.
We specifically work with those who are diagnosed with PTSD

A brief explanation of bilateral therapy and brain overview.
Bilaterial stimulation is not new; man has been using it for thousand of years.
Bilateral stimulation, by itself, is simply using something you can see, hear or feel and crossing the body in a rhythmic pattern.
An example of this is butterfly taps. You put your right hand on your left shoulder and your left hand on your right shoulder. Then, you alternate gently tapping each shoulder in a consistent rhythm or pattern.
Bilateral stimulation is found to be soothing to the body. As a matter of fact, if you watch around you, you find that it is often built into many activities that people find relaxing or things people do to “clear their head”.
Bilateral stimulation can utilise what you see, hear or feel as long as it moves from side to side, crossing the body in a rhythmic pattern.
Some common activities are walking, jogging, tapping on a drum with alternating hands (like bongo drums) or when people are listening to a song and they alternate tapping on their legs or tapping their fingers on the steering wheel.
Some people will use an Eye Motion Light Bar which looks like mini Christmas lights that move from side to side. Follow the lights with your eyes and it produces a calming effect.
Other use plastic pulsars that the client holds (one in each hand) that alternates mild vibrations. Some will alternate tapping on hands or knees.
Finally, sometimes we may listen to music, chimes or audio tones that alternate from our left to right ears.
It isn’t something that is overly bright, or loud or uncomfortable.
How do we know that Managing Brainwaves, Brain mapping and Brain tracking actually works?
Success depends on the quality of the feedback of the many products now on offer. All are clear that there are no guarantees that the technology, the hardware, or the advice will suit everyone. It takes time and a little patience to understand the process and the practical implementation. Using Pelaton or a Fitbit won’t necessarily guarantee us weight loss, improve our fitness or bring about a healthier lifestyle – but for the most part it does.
Exactly the same applies to Metawaves – with the added advantage that this exciting neuroscientific technology enhances the likes of Peloton or Fitbit
Competitors include technology which tracks sleep quality that measures heart rate, brainwaves and movement, others are designed to evoke mindfulness through meditation, accurately measure is your electroencephalogram (EEG) brain readings combined with controlled breathing advice. There’s a range of technology headsets that treat depression without pharmaceuticals or that emit gentle alternating micro vibrations which are bilateral with alternating stimulation and helps to retrain the brain. Others help to manage diet and appetite by stimulating the vestibular nerve, which sends word to then hippopotamus, the part of the brain controlling metabolism and appetite. There are many more examples, and there are also many Companion Apps that provide advice.
Metawaves comes to the market endorsed by years of scientific research and success.
The results and feedback from Metawaves technology and the powerful explanations and training combine together to provide support and real-time help for: Mental Health, Focus with Mind Flow and Attention, Relaxation / Meditation and Sleep, Peak Performance and Success training, Stress and Trauma management, Neurodiversitites as well powerful support for Learning and Memory enhancement.
In reality, the Metawaves training and technology is empowering in any walk of life.
The Change Curve
(Adapted from Elizabeth Kubler Ross Change curve for Grief, 1960s)
- Shock / Surprise
The first stage is shock (or denia, when we put forward our own defence mechanisms to deflect the acceptance of the event or happening. There is a rapid decline in engagement in this stage. It’s only human to hang onto is it past and our individual views. Initially we disconnect with reality.
- Resistance – sometimes irrational Anger
When the reality sets in, it is often displayed in the form of stubborn resistance or in the form of fear or anger. If there is no intervention at this point even by oneself or with the help of others, the situation could easily decline and spiral out of control.
- Loss of Control
In any event, there is understandably some obvious loss of control. This may be exemplified by mood change, a change in values, confusion, emotional reactions and Indecision and irrational conclusions. For some this may be only momentary, if they are trained to deal with Shock situations and in Resilience – but for many stage 4 is when we hit the lowest at the bottom of the curve.
- Low Morale, Anxiety and Depression
In this most depressive of stages, It is possible that we lose hope entirely. There are signs of extreme sadness, regret, and demotivation. And of course this can lead to clinical depression. intervention at this point is best accepted – and involves collusion with others whom we trust.
- Bargaining and Exploration
Once we are able to cross the early stages of the change curve to the upward curve, we attempt to save and strengthen the situation by exploring new paths. We often try to negotiate and find a compromise. With key skills we are able to change the state of our brain to enable objectivity and rational thinking.
- Discovery
It is often at stage 6 but a new reality emerges, and we discover that there are potential solutions that will at least ease the trauma or challenges we have experienced. And this does not have to be an event that is catastrophic – it could be a relatively minor hiccup, but with potentially significant implications.
- Acceptance and Adjustment
In the final stage of the curve, we have come to terms with the change. We accept the change and start to implement favourable options and opportunities. We make the decision to make the change permanent in our subconscious to avoid reverting to the first four stages.
Change
So, there is no such thing as “business as usual” – perpetual change is the norm. Most people are experiencing multiple change cycles, personally and professionally.
As you start to adjust to one change another often occurs. The “goalposts” are constantly shifting. In order to reach adjustment an exploration must occur: an exploration of new ways of being, behaving, thinking and feeling about things.
Performance and Success depends on the ability to manage through change.
On the downslope, productivity is significantly impaired. We are often tired and fatigued but being expected to meet the new challenges. The First half of the curve people look back. The Second half of the curve people look forward.
When encountering change people need information – on downslope they need support and on the upslope they need encouragement. As they adjust they need reward & recognition.
People in a team may be at different points on the curve for the same change.
We have many setbacks on our life journey – just understanding the curve, or the cycle of change helps us survive.
Mistakes’ are simply feedback – an essential part of the learning process. But that’s when we’re learning `naturally’ – or non-consciously – things that we `need’ to know.
Because we are conscious only of what we are conscious of, we tend to think that ‘conscious awareness’ is all there is. And yet if we really look at our lives, decisions we have made, and how we have learnt most things, we become aware of how much has been influenced by things beyond our conscious control.
This provides a flavour of our methods and thinking when working with clients of IMF+

Metawaves & Heartmath Feedback and Training:
Feedback from any Mind and Brain Wave Management session can be viewed on an App, and we can then track back, looking at our whole brain coherence, our pulse and HRV, our breathing coherence, our balance between active state and relaxed mode and much more.
We will be able to set targets and manage patterns over previous sessions.
Throughout an App we will also be able to gain further information and explanation.
To achieve the potential that Mind and Brain Wave Management feedback and training and coaching can produce, it is important to have a clear understanding of how the brain and mind work, and to explore our own particular Personal Profile.
To begin with it will be useful for individuals to reflect on their current approach to life and what works for them. This is normally achieved by a Key professional Skills Performance Review by self-assessed analysis and enables an in-depth look at:
- Competencies and Personal Talents
- Personal Skills
- Qualities and Characteristics
- Interests
- Aspirations
- Learning Profile and Style – including IQ
- Mental Resilience
- Mind and Brain Wave feedback (EEG analysis)
Most people do not realise just how much potential they possess until they have carried out this background review.
Advice is provided in Guided Session areas of:
- Peak Performance Flow mode
- Maximising Learning mode
- Managing Anxiety and Distress mode
- Meditation and Relaxation mode
- Managing Sleep mode
- Achieving Concentration, Attention and Focus mode
- Positive Emotion and Resilience mode
There is an Unguided Session mode, so individuals gain feedback whatever they are doing to understand, upon reflection, how they performed.
Introductory information and links are provided for further information are included in the App. The following areas are most popular:
- Understanding the Mind, Brain, Brain Waves and Heart Rate Variability
- Mind State; Resilience and Strength
- Improving Memory
- Critical Thinking, Decision Making and Problem Solving
- Creating a Personal Performance Plan
- Health and Well-Being (mental and physical)
- Neurodiversities
- Success Skills
- Self-Coaching
- Working with a Coach
- Clinician and Therapist Training
Brain coherence is a natural state, which can occur spontaneously, especially when we are feeling positive and upbeat or doing something we truly enjoy.
However, for most people in todayʼs high stress world, it is rare for sustained periods of coherence to occur without practicing techniques like Mind and Brain Wave Management.
The Seven Steps of Peak Performance Coherence:
Metawaves & Heartmath BWM
Step 1 Connect the Headband sensors
Put on the headset and link to the app.
Step 2 Set the parameters for a focused session
Choose the session you want to follow. Set the time and other options available.
Step 3 Choose the brain wave mind state you require and set the target
These are Unguided sessions modes (without training and guidance throughout the session):
Attention, Focus and Concentration mode
Meditation, Mindfulness and Relaxation mode
Managing Distress and Anxiety mode
In the Flow mode
Peak Performance mode
Step 4 Focus on your Mindwave and Heart connection
Calmly focus your attention on the area around your heart. Put your hand over your heart if it helps, and clear your mind, imagining the situation you wish to engage.
Look at the app and recognise the real-time brainwave levels depicted, your heart rate and pulse, your breathing coherence – and much more.
You will be able to see whether you are in or out of the zone you have chosen. Calmly focus your attention on the personal situation or challenge you wish to consider and review.
Step 5 Smart Breathing
Imagine you are breathing through your heart as well as your lungs and diaphragm. Visualise your breathing is flowing in and out through the chest. Breathe slowly and gently. Breathe in slowly for 5 seconds and slowly breath out for 5 seconds and maintain this until your breathing is rhythmic, smooth, balanced and unforced. As you continue you will find a natural inner rhythm that suits you.
Step 6 Employ Positive Language and Positive thinking – Visualise Success
At this point, it is very important to employ positive feelings and attitudes. Continue to breathe rhythmically and occasionally look at the App screen to follow your real-time feedback. By using guided imagery and visualisation techniques, and by engaging emotions such as happiness, appreciation, joy or compassion, or such as drive, extreme focus and desire to succeed, we can begin to alter mind state. This means that you can employ the most appropriate brain wave for our purpose in the session and you can manage your chemical and hormonal balance and cardiac function to maximum effect. As you focus on this the mind, brain and body synchronise to achieve a state of Maximum flow.
Some people like to visualise an occasion where they have felt success, calmness, or a
time when they have felt appreciation or care. This can make it easier to engage a positive feeling in the present moment. This could be the love or affection we may have towards a special person, a pet, a place you enjoy, or an enjoyable activity. Equally it may be for an active challenge, a physical activity (like sport), a public performance, when key decisions need to be made with calm clarity or when we are anxious, stressful, feeling low or recovering from trauma.
Try to sustain this focused state it by continuing your heart rhythm, breathing and emotional feeling. After a period of time the breathing will become rhythmic and you will forget it is consciously happening.
Step 7 Post Session Reflection
At the end of the session, use the app to look back at your results in all the key areas that you used to engage cortical coherence. Consider the areas that you would like to improve from your results and also from the percentage of success in the task is that you are undertaking. There’s a section in the app where you can write notes and keep a journal of your success. This helps you plan your target for the next session.

The Metawaves App
This App incorporates brain and mind technology for Peak Performance and improving Success in all areas of life
The Metawaves App provides instant real-time feedback and self-management skills and techniques to manage mood, attention and peak performance.
What’s on the screen?
Diagrams, and Narration and some script. There are links to further information and explanation on the website.
You will see in real-time during the session that display activity each brain wave and in each brain hemisphere.
At the end you can see specific results in the following areas: Right and Left Brain Coherence; Brain Rhythms for all 5 brainwaves and your Coherence Time
These results are recorded and saved to look at after the session and in the future.
What do these results mean?
These results give feedback on brainwave activity (EEG feedback) and (via Heartmath) on Biofeedback which links the Brain, Heart and Nervous System.
This allows analysis of the effect of the feedback and how they may be synchronised and may be altered to increase greater performance as the user learns more about self-managing their ideal brain state for their given activity. For example, a user may be trying to increase concentration span for a particular sport.
Users may choose between 5 Mind States (called protocols):
- Focus and Attention
- Meditation and Relaxation
- Peak Performance
- In the Flow
- Managing Stress
In each protocol there is an explanation of the preferred brain wave balance to achieve during the session.
There is also an explanation of targets that may be achieved and a list of typical scenarios to help guide the user towards choosing the correct mind state for their particular needs.
Often clients work with IMF+ experts to improve their facilitation of the App to begin with, and build up a personal development plan with clear set targets.
The app also displays reward points gained as a result of staying within coherence during the session.
The App also displays the number of points gained over the lifetime of the user’s BWME sessions.
As with all apps, there is a constant evolution as we develop new ideas, further information, individual challenges and new Guided Sessions and new features. The app will be updated on a regular basis.
Wearing the Muse Headset
With your Muse headset there is a description of how to wear it, and this can also be seen through the Muse app.
The headset is hooked behind the ears in the same way as putting on a pair of glasses.
Be sure on that any hair is moved out of the way of the forehead and that the headset is adjusted so that the senses are against the skin of the forehead. It may be useful to clean forehead before use.
When you are inside the app it will check for connection and that it is receiving signals from your brain.
Log in. Check menus
To start a session choose Training, and you will see the list of protocols. (See the sections on “The Metawaves App” and “Understanding Metawaves App Protocols”.
Choose your session and the length of time you wish to be monitored and click “Start Session”.
If the headset is directly connected you will see the App displaying five Green bars. It will then automatically switch into a screen that displays a circle. If the circle changes shape it is indicating that you are out of coherence.
Using the skills described In the section “BWME Key Session Techniques”, you will learn to supply them to enable you to increase or decrease particular brainwaves. For instance if you wish to increase Beta SMR brain wave which helps you gain a state of flow or being in the zone, you will follow the advice provided in the training.
At the end of the session you will be asked to save it.
Within a few minutes he will be able to see it displayed on the History, and you can go to the Home page to look in detail at the session results.
For further information on the results, please see the section on “Understanding Metawaves Session Results”.
